APRIL 2002 #291
PRESIDENT’S LETTER Valerie Walls This is the
time of year in Boulder when winter and summer battle for supremacy and
ardent outdoor sports people are torn between heading for the mountains
and getting together with friends to hit a little yellow ball. These past
two weeks I seem to be on the wrong side. When I plan to play tennis, it
snows and when I plan to ski my eyes are looking longingly at the sun
shining on the courts. Does it get me down? Nah! How else can I boast to
my family in Canada that: “Oh, yeah! Last week I skied powder and
played tennis outside in my T-shirt!’? I hope you
are having as much fun! League
teams are starting to get together in order to meet each other and find
suitable playing styles. I would like to take this time to thank the
Coordinators for all their hard work and the Captains for getting teams
together, it is not easy. I heard from a little bird that some players
have had a coordinator fill out their BTA membership forms for them! As
though that person doesn’t have enough to do! You must join the BTA to
play on the BTA Leagues. Other
volunteers are also working hard behind the scenes. Mary Anderson and Mona
Tell have been struggling with the first IRA forms needed to be filled out
by our organization. Doing one set of taxes is enough for most people!
Armand Gingras has the nearly 30 people who signed up for the Rating
Clinic (April 6) assigned time slots. The Austin Scott committee has been
working hard and I am sure you will benefit from their efforts. Once we
have most of the membership forms in we will be contacting you generous
people who have volunteered to help out in one way or another. Of course
big thanks to your Board who are always there, helping each other when
need be and working to make your BTA tennis experience a good one!

RATING CLINIC
SATURDAY, APRIL 6,
9 AM
To receive an NTRP rating you must be rated by a Professional, who has been certified to do so.
To participate in the
BTA clinic you must reserve a time by calling Armando Gingras 303-541-1018 and
letting him know what you think your rating might be (most important!).
You will be assigned a time according to your level beginning with the lower
ones.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the BTA allows you to play on
the Ladder, in our Leagues, and other activities. You will receive the monthly
newsletter keeping you up to date on what is happening in the tennis community.
Your membership is for the calendar year, no
matter when you join..
A membership page will be
published in the Spring listing names, telephone numbers and NTRP ratings or
your own best estimate if you are not rated.
Extra membership brochures are available at
Boulder Recreation Centers, East and South as well as at Rocky Mountain Racquet
Specialists, 2425 Canyon Street and on our website.
The BTA operates as a nonprofit organization. We are an Organizational Member of the United State Tennis
Association, the Intermountain Tennis Association, and the Colorado Tennis
Association. However, membership in the
BTA does not include membership in the USTA.
You will still need to join the USTA directly if you are interested.
